What's the difference between being Tez and Being Smart?
A Brief case-study from my life
During this lockdown due to COVID-19, i came to my hometown from Orissa and started giving private tutions. One day a man came to me during my tution hours(he was the father of one of my student). He asked me, "Sir, mera beta Tez to hai pr smart nahi hai"(Sir, my son is very bright but not creative), and asked me a solution for it. Yes, like you i was also left into thoughts what does he actually meant. So, i told him to wait for an hour and i will meet him after the classes are over.
During my class i was only thinking what he actually meant and closely observed his child that what is missing in him that he is not creative but tez(bright). So, i gave the child a task of connecting some complex dots which finally makes a meaningful geometrical shape. The child told me that it could be a pentagon or hexagon if joined properly and also gave the reason behind his claim. But when he started connecting dots, he made a mistake such that the result was an arbitrary shape, with no meaning. I asked him to give a next try,but he was to lazy to try once more, he said "Sir, hamse nahi banega,ye bahut complex hai.(Sir, i will not be able to complete the task,as it is very complex.)". This made me to think that it's true that the child is very sharp and intelligent in academics as he claimed the right figure and also explained the reason behind his claim, but as soon as he faced a failure he became demotivated and start thinking that he knows nothing.
After an hour all my students went out and i called the man. I asked the man, 'Do you know there's a difference between being bright and scoring good in school and on the other hand being creative and becoming successful?"
This time the man was a bit confused. Now, it was the time to clear the suspense. So, i went like:
"In this world a man runs after only two things: Learning and Motivation. But he interrupted me and said no you missed the third thing and it's money. But i was not convinced by him, rather i said that no a man does not always runs after money. You motivate a man who is running after money blindly to be satisfied in life and he will stop running after the money, but you can't stop a man from the two things i mentioned before.
Your son is bright,he is interested to learn things and skills and similarly suppose my son is also interested to learn things and skills, but after that when it comes to real world application of those knowledge and skills your child becomes demotivated after one failure and my child tries again and again to overcome the failure.
Your child, as he is now demotivated goes towards motivational speakers who motivates him. He again return towards learning skills, then towards work, and faces a second failure and then become demotivated and again goes towards receiving motivation and in this way the cycle of Learning and Motivation goes on and hence both of their business flourishes. And it is not the fault of motivational speaker who motivated him to learn again and give it a next try, and neither it was the fault of the teacher who taught him new methods and skills to accomplish his job, but it was your child who after facing a failure was not able to try gain and went back to the motivational speaker.
The motivational speaker or the consultant knows that this time the person who is coming to him is wrong because he actually doesn't need motivation but the will and passion to complete his work, but as it is his business he can't stop the person coming and booking a seat for his shows.
So, it is all the case of passion and the daring to try again and again until you complete your job.
So, in this way your child is just Tez(bright) and my child is Smart(Creative). "
Believe me after this explanation he(the child's father) was just like "oh sir, make me your servant."
So, this was my story which i tried to figure out in words in most effective way, hope you understood what it meant.
